Academic Year 2009-2010

The Eberly College of Science at Penn State is pleased to announce that it will once again offer Braddock Scholarships to outstanding students who are interested in the study of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Premedicine.*  These awards, together with the Academic ExcellenceScholarships made by the The Schreyer Honors College (SHC), provide full tuition, room, and board and are available to selected students who have unusually distinguished records and who have been invited to participate in the Scholars Program. Braddock Scholars are guaranteed research placements in faculty laboratories and are reimbursed for unfunded research expenditures up to a maximum of $1,000. They are also allowed to travel to one professional meeting per year within the continental United States, also to a maximum of $1,000.

Established in 1980, the SHC offers academically superior students the opportunity to enrich and broaden their general education and to enhance preparation for graduate study or a profession.  Admission to the program is highly selective, requiring excellent SAT scores, outstanding high school grades, and other evidence of intellectual distinction.  Each year approximately 300 applicants to the SHC are offered Academic Excellence Scholarships, renewable for a total of four years, assuming an appropriate level of academic performance.  For an SHC application, please visit http://www.shc.psu.edu, or contact the SHC at scholars@psu.edu or (814) 865-2060.

The Braddock Scholarships, of which approximately ten are awarded each year, supplement the Academic Excellence Scholarship and are also renewable for a total of four years pending appropriate academic performance.  To apply for a Braddock Scholarship, please complete the form below:
