Braddock Scholarships for Exceptional Science Students
Braddock Application Process is Closed
for
Academic Year 2008-09
The Eberly College of Science at Penn State is pleased to announce that it will once again offer Braddock Scholarships to outstanding students who are interested in the study of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Physics, Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or Premedicine.* These awards, together with the Academic Excellence Scholarships awarded by The Schreyer Honors College (SHC), provide full tuition, room, and board and are offered to selected students who have unusually distinguished records and who have been invited to participate in the Scholars Program. Braddock Scholars are guaranteed research placements in faculty laboratories and are reimbursed for unfunded research expenditures up to a maximum of $1,000. They are also allowed to travel to one professional meeting per year within the continental United States, also to a maximum of $1,000.
Established in 1980 as the University Scholars Program, the SHC offers academically superior students the opportunity to enrich and broaden their general education and to enhance preparation for graduate study or a profession. Admission to the program is highly competitive, requiring outstanding high school grades and other evidence of intellectual distinction, as well as strong personal qualities. The SHC application process, including teacher recommendations, must be completed online from the Penn State undergraduate application, available at http://admissions.psu.edu/apply. The priority application deadline, and the deadline for consideration of credentials and teacher recommendations for the Braddock Scholarship, is November 30, 2007.
The Braddock Scholarships, of which approximately fifteen are awarded each year, supplement the Academic Excellence Scholarship and are renewable for a total of four years pending appropriate academic performance. To apply for a Braddock Scholarship, please complete the form below and please remember to have a science teacher, a math teacher, and a teacher who can evaluate your oral and written communication skills write on your behalf as part of your SHC application.
*Students in the Penn State-Jefferson Accelerated Program (PMM) are not eligible.
