ASTRO - 525 Davey Lab, 865-0418
- Faculty/TA Assistance: Instructors have a list of hours when they are available to help the students in their classes, and many instructors also have TAs with office hours.
- Internet Assistance: Lecture notes and exam review notes are often available on the Department course webpages at http://www.astro.psu.edu/ under "Course Information.".
- Private Tutors: A list of private tutors can be obtained from the department webpages under "Course Information." or by e-mail (sjackson@astro.psu.edu).
BMB/BIOTC/MICRB- 108 Atlhouse, 865-5497
- Faculty/TA Assistance: Instructors list the office hours for the classes they teach on the class syllabi, and many have TAs with office hours as well.
- Private Tutors: A list of private tutors is available in 108 Althouse and is also distributed and announced in many classes
- Supplemental Instruction (SI): Review sessions are available for BMB 211. Contact the University Learning Center at 220 Boucke or call 865-1841.
- Tutoring Center: Tutoring is available for MICRB 106,107; BI SC 004. Contact the Tutoring Center at 865-1841.
- Internet Assistance: The Department Home page contains information on many courses at: http://www.bmb.psu.edu/courses/. Also, many faculty are available via e-mail from the course pages.
- Undergraduate Lounge: There is an undergraduate lounge available to all department majors and offers an area to study alone or with classmates.
BIOL - 329 Whitmore, 865-2329
- Faculty/TA Assistance: Faculty can be consulted during office hours or during other specified times. The TA's office is in 153 N. Frear and they offer tutorial help for the general biology classes. Courses with labs do have TAs who are available to assist students needing help.
- Internet and Other Assistance: A number of biology courses now regularly place their lecture notes on the departmental home page (http://www.bio.psu.edu/home/). In addition, some courses offer audio tapes of the lectures while some courses offer special review sessions. Ask instructors about availability of these resources.
- Tutoring Center: Tutoring is available for BIOL 27, 129, 141. Contact the Tutoring Center at 865-1841.
CHEM - 210 Whitmore, 863-8234
- Department Resource Room: The Chemistry Department has a resource room located in 211 Whitmore. TAs have office hours there and the department hires other undergraduate students to be tutors in the evening. The resource room is open all day and through the evening. Chemistry Evening Tutorial Sessions are from 6:30 -10:30 p.m. Sundays - Thursdays.
- Private Tutors: A list of private tutors is kept in the Undergraduate Chemistry Office located in 210 Whitmore.
- Supplemental Instruction (SI): SI is available for CHEM 12, 13. Contact the University Learning Center at 220 Boucke or call 863-6343.
- Tutoring Center: Tutoring is available at the Tutoring Center for CHEM 34. Contact the Tutoring Center at 865-1841.
MATH - 107 Whitmore, 865-7528
- Faculty/TA Assistance: Faculty and TAs can be consulted during office hours and other specified times. Faculty often offer review sessions outside of class, which they announce to their students.
- Math Center: Provides free tutoring for Math 1, 2, 4, 17, 18, 21, 22, 26, 41, 110, 111, 140, 140A, 141 and 200. Contact the Math Center in 220 Boucke at 865-1841.
- Private Tutors: A list of private tutors is available in 104 McAllister and the Math Center.
- Sperling Cohen Tutoring Program: Free tutoring in Math 140 and 141. Groups of 3-5 students meet twice a week with specially trained tutors to discuss any difficulties they are having with homework assignments or other aspects of the course. For more information contact the Math Department at 865-7528.
- Other: In the past, the Engineering Honor Society has offered free tutoring sessions for Math 140 and 141 students on Monday nights. Contact Nancy Witherite at 865-7539 for further information.
PHYS - 104 Davey, 865-7533
- Department Resource Room: The Physics Learning Resource Center, located in 207 Osmond Lab, is a walk-in lab staffed by three graduate students. Students from any 200-level physics course (except 237) can receive assistance during operating hours (6:00-8:00 pm Sun. - Thurs. nights).
