F. Nevin Corl, chemistry stockroom supervisor, has retired after 45 years of dedicated service to Penn State. First hired in October 1955 by the Department of Chemistry as a stockroom clerk, Corl also worked as a preparation technician and stockroom inventory clerk, a position that required laboratory preparation, and was later promoted to stockroom supervisor. His enthusiasm for his work and his loyalty to the chemistry department and the University itself defined Corl's tenure at Penn State. He was a fixture in the department for four and a half decades and began his career so long ago that he started with the University 11 years before Joe Paterno was named head coach of the football team. Many people admire Corl's long relationship with Penn State, and he believes a combination of good reasons kept him employed during a career that coincided with the administrations of nine U.S. Presidents. "I liked the work and the people in the department," Corl said. "I liked the chemistry undergraduate students and graduate students. Plus, getting to know students from all over the world allowed me to travel the world without ever leaving the farm." Corl, who grew up on a farm near Fairbook, Pennsylvania, lives in Pine Grove Mills and remains active with neighborhood and service organizations. < S W S >
