A 1950 graduate of the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture in Niagara, Canada, he managed the greenhouse for 33 years, from 1950 until he retired in 1983. He was an avid orchid grower and helped to establish Penn State's renowned collection of those flowers. Now named the Lloyd Driver Orchid Collection in his honor, the flowers occupy one full room of the greenhouse in Buckhout Laboratory. For several years, he also maintained an outdoor botanical garden that was located on the site where Wartik Laboratory now is located. In addition to his dedication to the Department of Biology, Driver regularly volunteered in the cafeteria at Centre Community Hospital. He is survived by his wife Toby, son Jeffrey, and two granddaughters. [ S W S ]
