Hockenberry Retires After 25 Years of Service

Mardi Hockenberry9 July 2004 --Mardi Denise Hockenberry has retired after 25 years of service to Penn State. She spent the last several years as a staff assistant VII in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology where, in addition to providing support to several faculty members, she helped facilitate undergraduate programs such as the First-Year Testing, Counseling, and Advising Program (FTCAP) and academic-degree audits for graduation. She routinely edited and updated resources used by students in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Microbiology majors. She also designed department newsletters and maintained undergraduate web pages.

Hockenberry previously had been a scheduling clerk for the Department of Chemistry from 1988 to 1989, where she prepared and distributed course materials for all freshman chemistry courses and labs for more than 5000 students each semester and assigned bench space for ten lab sections of more than 1900 students each semester. Before joining the Eberly College of Science, she was a transcription clerk and records clerk in the Registrar’s Office from 1978 to 1988.

Hockenberry served on the University-wide Undergraduate Affairs committee and the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS) Users Group and served as a mentor for new undergraduate assistants. She participated in the Eberly College of Science Undergraduate Staff Assistants (USA) initiative to produce an online resource workbook for undergraduate staff assistants. She also coordinated a newsletter workshop for staff in the college.
