1 December 2007—A free public lecture titled "Helicobacter pylori-The Origins of a Nobel Prize," will be given on 4 December 2007 by Barry J. Marshall, National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Principal Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia and a Francis R. and Helen M. Pentz Professor of Science at Penn State.
The lecture will begin at 4:00 p.m. in 100 Life Sciences Building.
Marshall will discuss his research on the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, which ultimately led to proof of his theory that peptic ulcers are caused by this bacterium, and that patients with this bacterium are at significant risk for developing stomach cancer. Marshall's findings revolutionized treatment for ulcer patients worldwide.
