5 October 2006—Andrea Mastro, professor of microbiology and cell biology and the director of the Immunomodulation Core Laboratory with the General Clinical Research Center at Penn State, has been named to the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) as Vice-President for North Central Pennsylvania. Mastro’s research focuses on breast cancer metastasis to the bone and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students in that area.
Mastro is a member of a review panel of the National Cancer Institute. In 2003, she was the recipient of an Income Tax Check-Off Grant for Breast Cancer Research. Her work and achievements in the field of breast cancer research were recognized with the PBCC’s Stepping Stone Award and the Adams County Breast Cancer Coalition’s Research Award in 2004. She also presented a workshop on “The Basic Science of Breast Cancer” at the 2004 Keystone Breast Cancer Conference workshop.
The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition is a non-profit organization that serves each of the state’s 67 counties through a network of County Captains, Regional Vice Presidents, and a statewide Board of Directors. The mission of the PBCC is to improve the quality of breast cancer education, research, and outreach in the state and to find a cure for breast cancer now “…so that our daughters won’t have to©.”
