Program Leadership
Mr. Peter Tombros, Professor and Distinguished Executive in Residence, oversees the Science BS/MBA Program. Mr. Tombros began his career with Pfizer where he worked for 25 years in a variety of positions including V.P. Marketing; Senior V.P. and General Manager; Executive Vice President, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals; and Corporate V.P. for Strategic Planning. In 1994, Mr. Tombros left Pfizer to join Enzon Pharma as President and CEO. Mr. Tombros retired from Enzon in 2001 and until September 2005 served as chairman and CEO at VivoQuest, a private biotech company. Today, in addition to his duties at Penn State , he serves on five public company boards including Alpharma (NYSE), Cambrex (NYSE), Dendrite International (NASDQ), NPS Pharmaceuticals (NASDQ) and Protalex.
Mr. Tombros received his BS and MS degrees from Penn State and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. Mr. Tombros guides students through the undergraduate portion of the program, preparing them for entrance into the M.B.A. program and advising them on possible future career paths and opportunities.
Dr. Dennis Sheehan joined the Smeal College of Business faculty in 1992 as the Louis and Virginia Benzak Professor of Finance. He previously taught at Purdue University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Rochester. Professor Sheehan is a graduate of Georgetown University and received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. Professor Sheehan's research and teaching interests are in finance and statistics. His current research is in corporate finance with papers on topics such as the extent and function of managerial stock ownership, the role of active shareholders in monitoring the firm, and the pricing of seasoned equity offerings by investment banks. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Econometrics, and has also been written up in the Wall Street Journal and the Journal of Applied Corporate Finance. Dr. Sheehan was instrumental in establishing the Executive MBA Program in the Smeal College. He currently serves as the programs' Faculty Coordinator.
Carrie Marcinkevage, MBA Program Admissions Director, comes to Smeal from the training and development industry’s Strategic Management Group, focusing on organizational leadership of people and projects. She has traversed many organizational roles including marketing brand management, recruiting and training, instructional design, software development, project management, and sales.
