What is Climate?

Climate is the word we use to describe the atmosphere in the college. How does it feel to be a member of our college? We strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment in which each member can achieve their fullest potential.

In October of 1999, Dean Larson formed a committee charged with the task of assessing the "climate" of the Eberly College of Science (ECOS) as a place to work and study. The information gathered since then has been used to further the College's vision of providing a supportive and welcoming environment in which all of its diverse members can carry out their individual missions of research, service, teaching and learning, to the best of their abilities.

The members of the ECOS Climate and Diversity Committee consist of faculty, staff, and students that represent a diverse groups within the college of science. The main committee meets once a month. Each year the committee selects climate projects/initiatives to work on. Sub Committees are for each of the chosen initiatives.

2009 - 2010 Sub-Committees

Communication
This sub-committee focuses on improving climate by enhancing the quality of communication between groups. provide guidance to allow ECOS communities to focus on building professional relationship in a mutually respectful climate. Please feel free to contact Jackie Bortiatynski (jxb46@psu.edu), Communication Sub-Committee Chair with any questions or suggestions.

Recognition and Rewards
The recognition and reward sub-committee's focus is to evaluate what current awards exist within the college that recognize and individuals work in improving the climate and diversity of the college. The goal is to create specific awards within the college that recognize what we value.
