Who We Are and What We do -
Eberly College of Science Cooperative Education Program

The Eberly College of Science Cooperative Education Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to integrate academic study with relevant experience in the workplace through alternating semesters of work and study.  Co-op students develop insight into the relationship between knowledge gained in the classroom and the application of that knowledge in both academic and non-academic settings.

As a centralized program in the Eberly College of Science, the Co-op Office staff assists any ECoS students interested in obtaining relevant work experience to enhance their educational experiences at Penn State.  Coordination of co-op assignments is accomplished by establishing connections with corporate partners and identifying workforce needs.  In addition to maintaining corporate relations with industry participants, members of the staff also assist students with resume development, career planning and academic issues, as well as the logistics related to housing, tuition, and student aid while on co-op assignments.  The staff ensures proper filing of co-op course grades through the Dean's Office; informs current co-op students of current campus news; works with faculty and Departmental Coordinators to establish usage of co-op credits; and maintains policies and overall integrity of the Co-op Program.  The Co-op Program has grown significantly in the past few years, and will have coordinated approximately 300 co-op assignments for the 1998-99 academic year.

Susan Knell, Director -- Responsible for overall supervision and direction of the program, development of relationships with industry representatives, and progress on new initiatives such as the international co-op program.

Cindye Rudy, Assistant Director -- Manages many of the student-focused duties related to the program, including meeting with student participants and speaking to student organizations, while also assisting in supervision and training of office staff.

Jamie Corman, Administrative Assistant -- Maintains all corporate files, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in addressing company needs, while also aiding the office staff in fielding student requests and developing more efficient office procedures.

Tammy Parrett, Staff Assistant -- Serves as the first-line contact for students and companies by answering and directing phone calls and addressing student inquiries, while also performing various administrative duties within the office.
