"The ability to present an accurate scientific analysis of evidence collected at a crime scene, or a scene of personal injury, can mean the difference between bringing the guilty parties to justice or allowing them to go free.

A forensic scientist must rely on skill, experience, knowledge and personal ability to present the results of an investigation to the jury in a way that enables them to understand the importance of the evidence.

Therefore, a strong foundation in the scientific method, interdisciplinary laboratory science, law, and ethics is required of the forensic scientists of tomorrow."

Robert C. Shaler, Ph.D.
Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

"The Forensic Science major at Penn State is dedicated to the idea that science and education serve the needs of our justice system. In a continually shrinking, high-tech world, our courts increasingly rely on science to answer its most difficult and pressing questions."
