Employment Issues

Academic vacancies are generally advertised in the appropriate disciplinary literature -- sometimes in paper publications, sometimes via electronic listservs and sometimes in both media.  Tenured, tenure-track, and other instructional academic appointments are filled by individual departments of the college.  Individuals interested in these types of positions should get directly in touch with the department in their area of expertise.  Academic research positions are filled by individual faculty researchers.  Visit our departmental web sites (links are available at http://www.science.psu.edu).  Each department lists its faculty and brief statements of current research activities. Application should then be made directly to the faculty member(s) with projects that are interesting to you.

Staff Assistant VI Draft Interview Questions

Full-time staff vacancies are filled with coordination through the University's central Employment and Compensation Division. New vacancies are announced each Friday at http://www.ohr.psu.edu under "Employment," and typically remain posted for a week. Some research support positions are filled directly by individual faculty researchers, so another avenue of approach would be to visit departmental web sites at http://www.science.psu.edu, review information about individual faculty research projects, and then contact the faculty member(s) with projects of interest to you.

Part-time and temporary staff positions are filled by the area that has a need. These sometimes appear in the Friday vacancy announcements, but more often are filled directly. If you are interested in this type of position, please feel free to send a cover letter and resume to Beth Trimble, Human Resources Representative for the Eberly College of Science (eit1@psu.edu or 512 Thomas Building, University Park, PA 16802).
