Clifford C. Clogg, professor of statistics and distinguished professor of sociology, died on May 7, 1995, at the age of 45. He was an internationally renowned expert in quantitative methods and demography, and was known particularly for his work on the analysis of rates, standardization methods, and latent-structure analysis. During the past five years, he was one of the foremost experts on National Academy of Science panels and professional association committees concerned with population statistics in the United States.
Clogg joined the Penn State faculty as an assistant professor of sociology in 1976 and was named assistant professor of sociology and statistics in 1979. He was designated a distinguished professor of sociology and professor of statistics in 1990.
Among his honors, he was named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association in1987, the Royal Statistical Society in 1990, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1993. He was elected a member of the Sociological Research Association in 1987 and received the Paul F. Lazarsfeld Award from the Methodology Section of the American Sociological Association for his major contributions to the development of methodology for social research. In 1993, he was named to Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
Surviving him at their home in Bellefonte, Pa., are his wife, Judy Ellenberger
Clogg, and four daughters.
J. Robert Olechowski, '55 M.S. Chem, died on April 26, 1995. He earned a doctoral degree from Louisiana State University and was a chemist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region Two in Edison; owner of J. R. Associates, a chemical and plastics consulting firm; and a consultant for the I.P.C.C. Recycling Group of Stamford, Connecticut.
He was the holder of numerous U.S. and international patents, was the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, and was a member of numerous societies.
Dr. Olechowski was also selected to appear in the First Polish American
Who's Who. He is survived by his wife, Royce Patterson Olechowski, of Lawrenceville,
New Jersey, as well as three sons and two daughters.
