Summer Science Sessions for Middle-School and High-School Students Expand An expanded session of summer camps for middle-school and high-school students, sponsored by the Eberly College of Science, features five weeks of hands-on, inquiry-based activities at the Penn State University Park campus this summer. In addition to the biology day camp previously offered, this year the Action Potential Science Experience will offer two additional day camps in chemistry, and it will include two, week-long resident sessions in chemistry and forensics. The camps highlight the work of Penn State faculty members and feature graduate and undergraduate students as instructors and mentors. Day camps, with activities from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for students entering fifth to eighth grades, begin June 18 with a session that focuses on biology. That session ends June 22. From July 16 to 20 and July 30 to August 3, the day camps focus on chemistry. Residence sessions, for students entering ninth to 11th grades, are scheduled June 24 to 29, focusing on chemistry, and July 22 to 28, focusing on forensicsan interdisciplinary session conducted by the departments of anthropology, chemistry, and related fields. More information about current and future camps can be found at http://www.bio.psu.edu/actionpotential, or you may contact the director, Rebecca Peterson, at (814) 865-8780 or by e-mail at rmp6@psu.edu
