Assistant to Financial Officer Says Farewell After 35 Years
9 April 2002 --
Edna Shuey, assistant to
the financial officer in the Eberly College of Science, retired on 31
December 2001 after 35 years of service to the University.
Shuey started out at Penn State in 1966 as a secretary in the Department of Computer Science, which then was still a part of the then-named College of Science. She moved on to become secretary to the associate dean for commonwealth campuses and continuing education. Finally, she assumed the duties of assistant to the financial officer in the Eberly College of Science, which she has performed for the past 18 years.
"I'll remember the many people I've worked with and the friends
I've made over the years," Shuey said. "Working in the financial
office has been very rewarding and it was always a pleasure working with
the staff in the departments. I especially enjoyed working with and helping
the students I met when I was working in the Department of Computer Science."
During that time, her co-workers developed a mutual admiration for Shuey.
"It was a pleasure to work with Edna. She was always helpful and
extremely hardworking. She came in every day motivated to work,"
said Larry Bell, financial officer for the Eberly College of Science.
"When I started, she took time from her busy schedule to help me
learn the University and College systems and policies."
Shuey said she plans to stay busy in retirement. She listed walking every
day, crocheting, reading, traveling, and spending time with family at
the top of her to-do list.
