Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program Overview

whitmoreb2sm.gif

The Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program is a non-degree program designed for a select group of academically talented, highly motivated college graduates who do not have a science background. In just 15-24 months, students can complete the science course work required to apply for admission to medical, dental, optometry, veterinary science, podiatry, physical therapy, physician assistant, or other allied health schools. This program, which is only offered at the UNIVERSTIY PARK CAMPUS, is flexible in terms of scheduling courses, and students that need to work may enroll as part-time students.

Penn State has a long-standing tradition of cooperative arrangements with some of the best medical and dental schools in Pennsylvania and the United States. We rank among the top twenty schools in the country in the number of students admitted to medical schools annually. The courses you take at Penn State provide excellent preparation for the health care professions.

The program consists of 38 credits of prerequisite science courses in general biology, general and organic chemistry, and physics, all including labs. These courses can be completed in four semesters, or two semesters and two summer sessions. Also available are courses in medical ethics and health policy/administration; upper-level courses in biochemistry, physiology, microbiology, neroscience, immunology, and anatomy; and seminar classes in Medical Professions and Basic Science and Disease. These are all regularly offered undergraduate and graduate courses taught by Penn State instructiors and faculty members.
