There are a number of organizations that focus on assisting students with obtaining work experience outside of the U.S. If you would like to earn academic credit and get work experience related to your major, then consider the Science Co-op Program ( www.science.psu.edu/coop ). Some of the other programs mentioned below may provide you with academically related work experience as well.
Research Internships in Science and Engineering
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), in cooperation with science organizations in North America and Germany, is coordinating summer internship opportunities for students in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, and Engineering. RISE summer placements are provided by German university research groups where the trainee will cooperate with a doctoral student and assist him/her in his/her experimental work. Interested students should contact Susan Knell at sek104@psu.edu or email knieps@daad.de directly to express interest. More information on the positions, requirements, and stipend are available at www.daad.de/RISE.
